I heard there is a public area open to prospecting on Butte Cr. along Hwy. 99. Has anyone been there or am I wrong about it???

Joe,

I watched a u-tube video on a gold & sand type pump a few weeks back and that's where they were. In the video you could see where others had worked and you could see the 99 overpass. I went on google earth and found a spot near Chico where 99 crosses the creek. Before you ask, I haven't been able to find the video clip again. :(

I was there about a year ago with my brother and we ran about 20 buckets and found only fines. The clay next to the creek is really hard and we didn't have all of our tools, so we were running the sandy gravel material from the bank. I imagine if you can get through that hard clay where they were on the video you might have better luck.

John,

Thanks for the info. Am I correct in placing the area at the 99 crossing near Butte Creek Country Club Estates???

Steve,

yeah, i see tailings all over that area.  access looks restricted, like there aren't any parking lots near.  there is a Dept of Agriculture facility to the north. and the golf club is south of the area. seems to need a personal visit.

Joe,

I was thinking the same thing. I think I'll check it out in a couple of weeks or so. I'm kicking around a build project and might test it there if all goes well.     Are you going to the Bear?

We actually parked at the end of Southgate Ln. I had to look it up on the map because I couldn't remember the road name. We walked West under the bridge and prospected down there. Good luck!

Thanks John,

Yeah, I looked on google earth and thought that was the best parking option. there are other roads but they all have gates. :(
