Dateline Las Vegas 4-26-2013 10pm local:

This just in......................

During the GPAA Las Vegas Summit meeting, Sourdough Joe hits it big in Vegas!  There was a raffle held with one raffle ticket going to each GPAA chapter club attending. The Grand Prize was 2 weeks at the 2014 GPAA Nome Alaska Cripple River Gold camp WITH airfare INCLUDED. This is a minimum $3K value. Ticket holders were asked to stand. As they read off the winning numbers, you were to sit down if your ticket number had been eliminated. Joe was the last man standing! Congratualations Joe and EBP club! :D :P 8)

Since Joe was representing the entire EBP club, he told me to post that upon his return, he will seek counsel from the club board and club staff to best decide how give all members a shot at this trip. Raffle, list it on ebay, who knows but somebody will have a shot at an awesome trip built-in to a fundraiser for the club. Thanks Joe for your lucky touch! First the big nugget find, now this! Awesome news!

GREAT JOB JOE! Looks like just standing around paid off!

Here's my thoughts on what to do with it:

Obviously it should be awarded at the next meeting, so that the winner has enough time to make the appropriate plans.

As for HOW it should be given away / won...

How about a raffle where each ticket is $10, with a maximum purchase of 2 tickets. That way people with limited funds have a fair chance of winning it, and it leaves members with a few bucks left in their pockets for the regular raffles.

It also allows the club to make some money without being greedy.

(Being that I'm one of those "limited fund" type people, the most I'd be willing to blow on a drawing where 'winner takes all' , is $20.)

I think the drawing should only be available to EXISTING club members, so that only a real club member / miner benefits from this winfall (and not some guy off the street looking to flip the prize). It also keeps people from bringing in 10 friends/family members and giving them $20 each to spend, with the purpose of bettering their odds.

Can I be the one to pick my, um, I mean, the, winning ticket? ;)

Rich.... What's the hurry? The trip is for the 2014 season a little over a year from now. That's why I bolded the 2014 in the first message. I like your other suggestions.

I would support Rich's ideas... Being a "limited fund" guy too, id love for my chances of winning to be equal. Maybe have a check-list of people sign as they buy. Also i definatly think more people would be involved that way. Just my .02.

When Joe comes down from Cloud 9, I'm sure he will have some ideas and will have read the suggestions here. He told me the night he won that he would seek counsel from the board and staff as well as membership inputs. The value of this "fundraiser" prize (we don't have raffles) is much greater than the average fundraiser prize so I can see this will take some creative thinking for the best balance between equal shot and raising some dough for a new claim or simply keeping the bills paid. I won't even guess right now how this will play out but it's pretty cool thinking about it. I have some ideas to help with the equal shot etc. but will wait until the time the discussion takes place with Joe.
